Nemo: prototyping for neurotech-startup nemo

Nemo is a startup providing a full—stack technology for monitoring productivity at work and for personal purposes.

2. Technology stack: Cinema 4D, Blender
3. Happy clients: +1

What we aimed at

It was assumed that the Nemo neuro-assistant would record brain waves on the user's temples on the principle of an electroencephalogram and send messages to a software broker. In case Nemo detects any increase in fatigue or lack of focus of the employee, the corresponding message will appear on the employee’s or/and his supervisor’s mobile phones.

The task was to develop a model of a neuro-assistant. Our client expected a design to be innovative, progressive, but at the same time intuitive and not requiring any additional training to use.

What we did

As a pre-work, we conducted our own research on ergonomics and on how full-time employees wear headphones a device that is closest in its visualization to a neuro-assistant.

Here are the details that buyers pay attention to that may be relevant to Nemo:
– wireless Bluetooth connection; minimalistic design or vintage references;
– minimum pressure on the auricles;
– extended cycle between recharges;
– compatibility with existing chargers.

First concept

Nemo minimal

We took these points into account when prototyping and got the following result.

Advantages:
– clean design;
– intuitive one-button power control;
– the possibility of further development of the color-texture solution, illumination, transparency.

Second concept

Nemo construct

Advantages:
– clear division into constructive components;
– a reference to vintage by combining different materials.

Third concept

Nemo headphones

Advantages:
– subordination of two simple figures;
– adaptivity of the design, possibility to remove the hoop at all.

Results

The customer settled on the nemo minimal model, which, in their opinion, is more corresponding to the brand's objectives. We have finalized the proposal by adding:

– a new sensor location;
– alternative color-texture solution;
– location and compatibility with the charger;
– approximate battery capacity.
